Ouray County has no office of its own within it. Extension serves it from Montrose, in an office named for both counties, with the Tri River area office at Grand Junction behind that, and the Colorado State Forest Service covers it from Montrose as well. The West Region Wildfire Council names Ouray among its six west central counties. Its website could not be read for a telephone number or an address, which the research pass recorded as the single most valuable gap it left behind.
