Who qualifies An individual landowner cannot apply. The eligible applicants are federal, state and local government, counties, municipalities, fire protection districts and other special districts, tribes, public utilities with infrastructure or land in high wildfire risk areas, and 501(c)(3) non profits that promote fuel reduction, prescribed fire or natural resource management, including wildfire councils and watershed and forest collaboratives. The route for a landowner is to ask whether their county, fire district or wildfire council holds an award.

How to apply Applications are submitted by email to COSWAP@state.co.us and hard copies are not accepted. The page still advertises the round whose deadline was 3 November 2025, so the current round has to be confirmed with the programme before anyone relies on it.
