Free wildfire and land services in Amador County, California
27 programs in 10 categories, plus 6 local offices in Amador County. Every listing names its source; ring ahead before you rely on one. Every local listing here was checked on or after 31 August 2026.
Most of what a landowner can get free in Amador flows through its Resource Conservation District: technical help that expressly serves raw, undeveloped land, carbon farm planning, a defensible space assistance programme with income categories, and the community chipping runs that have historically visited Ione, Sutter Creek, River Pines, Pine Grove, Volcano and Fiddletown. Chipping is paused until events reopen in fall 2026, and the listing says so rather than pretending otherwise. The fire safe council, named the county's nonprofit of the year for 2026, handles education and coordinates that chipping work.

Why Sierra Log & Timber cares about your vacant land
Sierra Log & Timber mills cedar log and timber home packages in Chico, California. A good part of our working week is spent with people who have just bought land, and the same thing happens every time: the grants, the chipping days, the defensible space visits and the permit desks are all real, and all scattered across a dozen county websites that do not link to one another. So we put them in one place and left it open. You do not have to be building a log home to use this, and reading it signs you up for nothing.
The offices behind these listings are in Jackson and Camino. 6 organisations and 4 programmes are recorded locally here. The local work runs to planning, chipping, defensible space and 1 more. When somebody asks us to price a package for a parcel in Amador County, these are the desks we point them at first. Access, clearing and defensible space all come before anything we mill, and they are cheaper before there is a building in the way.

Common questions
Does Sierra Log & Timber run any of these programmes?+
No. Every organisation and programme on this page is run by somebody else: a county office, a state agency, a nonprofit, a utility or a tribe. We collect them, check them and publish them, and that is the whole of our part in it. What we do ourselves is mill cedar log and timber home packages in Chico, California.
Is this free to use, and does using it sign me up for anything?+
The directory is free and reading it signs you up for nothing. The two panels below are the only places on this page that ask for an address, both are optional, and they do different jobs: one tells you when this county's listings change, the other tells us that something here is already wrong.
How current are the Amador County listings?+
Every organisation here was checked against its own website or an official directory before it was published, and nothing goes on the page without a working way to reach it. That does not stop numbers changing, offices moving or a programme running out of money. When one of those happens, the second panel below is how it gets fixed.

Free neighbourhood and community chipping. Currently paused: the RCD says community chipping events reopen in fall 2026, and offers a mailing list meanwhile. Events have historically run in Ione, Sutter Creek, River Pines, Pine Grove, Volcano and Fiddletown.
When the chipping events run, they are open to everyone in Amador County: the district states plainly that there is no age, income, disability or veteran test on them, which is unlike its defensible space assistance. The events handle green waste you have cut yourself, so the cutting is still your job. The district has said it is working to reopen them, so ring before you spend a weekend cutting and stacking.
Free to qualifying landowners, from Amador Resource Conservation District
Defensible space assistance programme for 2026, with income and eligibility categories.
Defensible space here is described as reducing flammable items and vegetation within 100 feet of your house and other structures, and as regular maintenance rather than a one off clear up. The district's office is at 12200 B Airport Road in Jackson, telephone (209) 214-9727.
Who qualifies Requires a primary residence. Income and eligibility categories apply.
How to apply The Amador Fire Protection District and the Ione, Jackson, Jackson Valley and Sutter Creek fire departments participate in delivery.

Free technical help from the district's staff: take them a question about the land, the trees or the fuel sitting on it and you get an answer, and where it helps, a plan behind the answer. It is available on raw undeveloped ground, not only on parcels that already have a house.
This reaches wider than Amador. Landowners in Amador, Calaveras and Tuolumne County are eligible for free technical assistance to review their forest health and fuels management goals, and staff also help identify resource concerns and submit grant applications, so bring any funding question along with the land question.

A written carbon farm plan for your property, prepared at no charge. A carbon farm plan sets out which land management practices will hold more carbon on a particular piece of ground, which in practice is much the same work that improves soil and holds water. Ask for one by email.
This is a small programme and it moves slowly: the district describes itself as working with three Amador County landowners on plans at a time, funded through the state healthy soils programme and a private sponsor. What you get is a plan for practices that build soil while holding carbon, which the district frames as improving the productivity of the land at the same time. Ask by email if you want to be in the queue.

Numbers change and programmes run out of money. Leave an address and it is held against the Amador County page so you can be told when a listing here is added, changed or removed. No account.
What is stored is your address and which county page you left it on, and nothing else: no name, no location, nothing about what you read. It is used for that one notification and for nothing else, it appears nowhere on this site, and this site cannot read the list back. Nothing has been sent to any address yet, because the notices are not built; when they are, every message will say how to stop them.
