Home heating assistance and free weatherization for income eligible households, delivered through local community action agencies.

The main help is a one off heating grant paid straight to your energy supplier rather than to you, and cooling is now covered as well as heating. The income line is drawn at 150 percent of the federal poverty level, and there is a rule people trip over: one grant per household per programme year, and that year runs from October to September, not January to December. In some cases the programme will also repair or replace a heating or cooling system that is unsafe or has stopped working, and a household that qualifies can be put forward for the state weatherization programme.
