A free visit to your property by a local fire professional, who assesses the house and the ground immediately around it and gives you specific things to change. A typical visit takes one to two hours and covers the home ignition zone out to 200 feet. You are shown the completed assessment forms and can go through the recommendations there and then. The department says the information is not shared with third parties and stays available only to you and to emergency first responders in Montana.

Who qualifies Requires a home to assess. Open to homeowners anywhere in Montana; the department says fire danger can affect a home wherever it is, though risk rises the closer you are to the wildland urban interface.
