- Building code
Nevada has no statewide residential building code: NRS 278.580 provides that the governing body of any city or county may adopt a building code, and NRS 278.582 sets out what a county or city that has no building code must do instead.

- Wildland-urban interface
The State Fire Marshal adopts the 2018 International Wildland-Urban Interface Code by reference at NAC 477.281, and NAC 477.283 deletes Chapter 5 of that code, the chapter that carries its ignition-resistant construction requirements for buildings.
- Who issues the permit
The governing body of the county or city issues the building permit and fixes its fee under NRS 278.580(2), and NRS 278.582(1) contemplates a county or city that has no building code at all.

- Building it yourself
An owner who builds or improves a residential structure for their own occupancy, and does not intend to sell or lease it within one year, is exempt from contractor licensing under NRS 624.031(5) and must apply to the Nevada State Contractors Board for that exemption.
