Utah's Forest Stewardship Program helps a private owner of forest or woodland put a written plan behind what they do with it. The plan, called a Forest Stewardship Plan, sets out goals and priorities for the property and recommends the work that would meet them. In Utah those goals commonly include reducing wildfire risk, improving forest health, enhancing wildlife habitat, and diversifying income through timber harvesting. The division also offers direct technical assistance on management options.

Who qualifies Serves rural land with existing tree cover, or land suitable for growing trees. Participants are nonindustrial private forest landowners of at least 10 acres, where nonindustrial means land owned by any private individual, group, association, corporation or other private legal entity.

How to apply For direct assistance with management options for forested land, the division asks landowners to contact the Area Forester at their local Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands office, or to email the Forest Stewardship Program Coordinator. The division publishes its area offices as a map rather than a county list, so the Salt Lake City headquarters line is the reliable first call.
