Santa Cruz County No Cost At Home Chipping

The district hires a chipping contractor to come to individual properties in high wildfire risk areas, chipping piles the household has made and blowing the chips back onto the property except in sensitive habitat areas.
Timing is the thing here. This is a spring programme: registration falls in April, the 1st to the 30th, with the chipping done in early May, so it is a job to line up over the winter rather than arrange in a hurry. Each household has to register on its own, and the district runs it only when funding is available. Where this comes from
Who qualifies Santa Cruz County residents in eligible areas. Material must come from vegetation cleared within 100 feet of occupied structures, or 15 feet either side of a private road. Up to three piles per household. Residents covered by the Bonny Doon or South Skyline fire safe councils use those councils' own programmes.
