There are two ways this happens and it matters which one your area gets. At a curbside day you register your address in advance, do your own cutting, and stack it neatly at the end of the drive; a crew comes past on the day and chips it, and whether the chips are taken away or left with you is settled before the event. At a drop off event the council sets a place and a time and you bring your cut material to it. The chipper takes wood up to 7 inches thick and no root balls, and fresh cut material chips far better than old dried out branches. It will not take leaves, succulents, pine needles, palm fronds, stumps, thorny branches, vines, bamboo, grass or small rakings. Only pre designated communities are served, and if yours is not one of them you can put in a request for an event. Where this comes from
