Trained UC Master Gardener volunteers answer home gardening questions from Merced County residents through a Help Desk request form, and respond within five business days. The programme also runs workshops through the year on subjects such as fruit tree pruning, growing tomatoes and caring for houseplants, and has provided community education on home horticulture, pest management and sustainable landscape practices in the county since 2009.

Who qualifies Merced County residents. The programme's page states no further restriction on who may ask the Help Desk a question. Becoming a Master Gardener volunteer is separate and the page says the next training class starts in January 2028.
