The council runs two kinds of chipping for wildland urban interface residents: a scheduled visit to chip at your home, and a drive up event at a community location where you take your own chips away. It supports the defensible space clearing required around permanent structures.
Stack with the cut ends all facing the same way and pointing out towards the street, on level ground in the public right of way. Who qualifies Free to wildland urban interface residents of the county. Limbs under 4 inches across, piles under 4 feet high and within 10 feet of the residential street. Broom and acacia with seed pods, leaves, yard clippings, timber harvest waste and orchard waste are refused. Los Altos Hills County Fire District residents register with that district instead.
How to apply The programme runs in seasons. The council's chipping page says which season is open and gives an email address for questions between seasons.
