Free curbside chipping, run as scheduled events by area and funded through CAL FIRE. Residents sign up in advance by address and stack one pile to the published size for each reservation.
Placement matters as much as the pile itself: within 5 feet of a roadway, on firm ground, and not blocking a road, driveway, sidewalk or fire hydrant. One pile can run up to 20 ft long by 4 ft wide by 4 ft high. Piles that break the rules are left behind. Where this comes from
Who qualifies You must live in a CAL FIRE fire hazard severity zone to be eligible. One pile per reservation, stacked in a line rather than tangled, with branches under 8 inches across. Lumber, root balls, palm fronds, yucca and poison oak are refused.
How to apply Check eligibility by address and reserve a place through the signup link on the council's chipping page. Events run by area rather than continuously.
