The district's free home hardening programme for Mariposa County: help with the building itself, so that embers landing on it or drifting into it do not start a fire, and with the ground in the first few feet around the walls. The programme runs on its own dedicated line rather than the district's main number.
What you actually get is an onsite wildfire risk assessment with recommendations, ember-resistant vent screens fitted, and vegetation cleared within five feet of the building. Brushing out to the 100 foot defensible space is a separate Fire Safe Council service for low-income or disabled residents. Places are first-come, first-served. Ring (209) 966-0970.
