Kern County Wildfire Home Assessment

A council evaluator visits the property at no cost, reviews the home's wildfire risks with the owner if they want to walk along, and afterwards sends a personalised report of recommendations for hardening the home and reducing risk. Results are private to the owner.
Expect the evaluator to concentrate on defensible space and home hardening, and in particular the ground within five feet of the house, which the council says plays the biggest part in whether it withstands embers. Who qualifies The council names the Kern River Valley, the greater Tehachapi region and the Mount Pinos communities as the areas it can serve, and invites residents elsewhere in the county to register interest.
