District staff trained through the University of California fire network and CAL FIRE's defensible space assessor programme visit the home, assess its ignition risk and hand back a written list of recommended actions, along with free fine metal mesh screens to fit over vents.
The visit is advice, not labour: staff do not carry out installations or repairs, and you are not required to act on anything in the report. Allow one to two hours for the walk around. Renters can take part with the owner's permission, and nothing noted is reported to another agency. Where this comes from
