HEAT is Utah's home energy assistance benefit, the state's name for the federal LIHEAP programme. It is a one-time payment toward a household's home energy costs, not a loan and not repayable, and a household may apply once during a programme year. It is worth applying early rather than waiting for trouble: the programme does not require a shut-off notice, and HEAT approval is what several of these same agencies want to see before they will schedule weatherization work.
Who qualifies Requires a home you live in. Income-qualified households, applying once per programme year through the agency that covers their county.

The agency says a shut-off notice is not required in order to apply, and that a household may apply once per programme year, which runs October to September.
