A forester comes out to your property and walks the home ignition zone with you, starting at the structures and working out to the 200 foot mark, filling in an assessment form as they go. A typical visit runs one to two hours. At the end you are shown the completed forms and taken through the changes that would make the house more likely to survive a fire, and through the grant money that might pay for them. If you have acreage beyond the home ignition zone the forester will do the same for your woods and can start you on a forest management plan.
Who qualifies Serves property in Lincoln County. Covers both the ground immediately around a house and forested acreage beyond it, so raw land is in scope as well as a residence.
How to apply Sign up through the assessment page on Fire Adapted Kootenai's site, or ring the DNRC number the page publishes for scheduling. A forester then contacts you to arrange a date.
