A trained assessor visits and walks the ground around a home or structure, looking at dry vegetation, tree spacing, brush clearance, combustible materials near buildings and access for firefighters. The report goes online to the owner and can be handed to a landscaper or to an insurer as evidence of fuel reduction work.
Who qualifies Requires a primary residence in practice. The property must be within the fire authority's jurisdiction, and the assessment is of the area around a home or structure, so bare ground with nothing on it has little for the assessor to look at.
