The county fire department chips brush and limbs that residents have already cut and stacked at the roadside, for material too large for a green bin and too small for a commercial chipping service. The crew does not cut vegetation, and all chips are left on the property for the resident to spread.
One thing to check before you book: wood that a professional tree service has taken down for you is not covered, and neither is wood fencing, nails, staples or barbed wire. When the crew has gone, you are asked to spread the chips straight away, to no deeper than 3 inches. Where this comes from
Who qualifies Vegetation only: tree limbs, brush, shrubs and small trees up to 8 inches across, with no single piece over 80 pounds. Poison oak, broom, blackberry, vines, grass, leaves and yard clippings are not chipped. Neighbourhoods are encouraged to organise a shared chipping day.
